A&E Grantees Shine at the 2017 St. Louis Theater Circle Awards
23 March, 2017
We’re not usually ones to brag, but after Monday’s St. Louis Theater Circle Awards, our grantees are giving us reason to do just that. Established by the St. Louis Theater Circle, a group of local theatre critics, the Theater Circle Awards aim to honor the best of the best theatre performances and productions of the past season.
To our delight, our grantees had quite the presence at the awards, with 11 of A&E’s grantees receiving nominations and nine taking home awards. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis dominated, taking home a combined total of nine awards for its productions of “Follies”, “Georama” and “Until the Flood.” Other prominent St. Louis theatre companies Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble, Shakespeare Festival St. Louis and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis also took home several awards.
Rick Dildine, Artistic and Executive director of Shakespeare Festival St. Louis expressed his gratitude for his Outstanding Director of a Comedy win saying, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream was a special production for me. It was the first Shakespeare play I ever read (and performed in) … The cast, crew, designers, and staff did a marvelous job producing the show, and I am forever grateful to you all!”
