How to Connect with other Young Arts Lovers in St. Louis
16 March, 2017
You know that feeling when you go to a restaurant and everything on the menu looks delicious? Do you want the burger, the fajitas, or the surprisingly filling salad? You finally decide, then as soon as you order, food envy takes hold as you see your friend's plate. It’s the worst, right?
With the Arts and Education Council’s affinity group Young Friends of the Arts (YFA), you don’t have to decide between that metaphoric burger, fajitas, or salad. You can eat them all (and some cake, too, if you’re still hungry). Many arts organizations have young friends groups, but YFA is the only one where you can support all the arts in St. Louis. It’s the buffet of arts affinity groups. Who says you can’t enjoy theatre, visual art, and music. And why not dance and the circus too? The list could go on and on. With YFA, you can experience them all and know that you are helping to make St. Louis a more vibrant, thriving city for us all to live, learn, work and play.
YFA furthers A&E's mission among young people to raise awareness, support, and participation for the arts and arts education in the bi-state region. YFA members connect with each other, the arts, and their community all in the name of the arts and arts education.
In the last year, YFA members connected over a variety of events including yoga and art with YogaBuzz and glassblowing and tacos at Third Degree Glass Factory. YFA members also got access to nights at A&E grantees Circus Flora and Shakespeare Festival St. Louis as well as a special arts experience with The Immersive Theatre Project. The inaugural year of YFA programming culminated with an inspiring night at the 2017 St. Louis Arts Awards in January. Planning is currently underway for more opportunities to connect, collaborate, and experience the arts in the coming year.
