Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design, an Arts and Education Council grantee, is officially moving to their new, larger location this week. Craft Alliance had occupied the same Delmar Loop location since 1969. The nonprofit remains on Delmar Boulevard, relocating two miles east to its new home at 5080 Delmar Boulevard.

Their new home underwent extensive remodeling and renovation. The new location provides the opportunity for increased capacity to serve more students and when it becomes safe to do so, host larger exhibitions and events, With over 14,000-square-feet, the facility features larger studios, an expanded exhibition gallery as well as retail space and administrative offices. The new studio space includes facilities for ceramics, metals, wood, fiber, glass and other craft media.

Craft Alliance also recently unveiled a new logo to coincide with their move. The logo showcases the curvature that is often seen in hand crafted pieces. The design also makes a nod to quotation marks, noting their focus on telling stories.

Craft Alliance Executive Director Mark Witzling shared his perspective on the new design, “It’s about the story you tell through your craft as much as it is about working with metal or glass.”

Craft, the making of objects in woods, metals, fibers, glass and clay, is both an ancient tradition and a site for innovation, adapting to new materials and responding to the ever-changing human experience. Their new location provides plenty of opportunities for innovation and collaboration. This area of Delmar Boulevard is home to several creative organizations including Third Degree Glass Factory, MADE and Magic House at MADE.

“We’re thrilled to be part of the Delmar Maker District and we’re working collaboratively to bring people into the district. It’s exciting to be in a community of makers all working to support one another,” Witzling said.

You can celebrate Craft Alliance’s new home with them this October. From their Virtual Grand Opening + Toast, to tours of the 5080 Delmar space to the 2019 Artists-In-Residence Exhibition, they’re excited to welcome the community to their new home. Registration for Fall classes is also currently open to the public.
