Shake it like a polaroid picture this weekend with Shakespeare Festival St. Louis!

In 2010, A&E grantee Shakespeare Festival St. Louis started SHAKE 38 as a 38-hour performance celebrating Shakespeare’s 38 renowned plays. Since then, the program has expanded to a five-day event attracting over 1,500 artists from across the region.

The 8th annual SHAKE 38 kicked off last night with an exhibition of Decisive Moments: Shakespeare through a Visual Lens at the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum (IPHF). Keeping with the theme of SHAKE 38, Decisive Moments featured a series of 38 images taken by local photographers, each representing one of the Bard’s plays, as well as brief live performances from local actors.

SHAKE 38 2017 runs through Sunday, April 23. Featured in this year’s jam-packed lineup are a number of A&E grantees and Centene Center tenants including, Equally Represented Arts (ERA), Prison Performing Arts (PPA), Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble (SATE) and the Center of Creative Arts (COCA).

New this year, Shakespeare Festival St. Louis is also giving local chefs the chance to join in on the celebration with “38-Eats.” Over the course of five days, 38 chefs will have the opportunity to prepare Shakespeare-inspired meals, at five locations across the St. Louis region.
